Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band music group

Broke Mountain
Bluegrass Band

They were a “super group” before they were super famous. As a band of barely-21, wet-behind-the-ears college kids who could straight up shred, members of Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band met at the base of the ski slopes in Durango, Colo. They didn’t have hardly any money, but they shared a love of picking until the wee hours of the morning. They were a broke mountain band, so they chose a fitting name, hoping to play their way into more robust bank accounts one day.

Daniel Donato's

When people first meet Daniel Donato, they’re not fully braced for this walking tornado of creative energy. “They think there’s something that tips the scale in ways they don’t understand,” says Donato about his over-the-top, slightly manic vibe. “But what actually tips the scale is the amount of thought and analysis I put into my work and art, all of which is taken from the lessons of my life.”

TAUK Moore music band

TAUK Moore

New York-based rock-fusion band TAUK is teaming up with vocalist Kanika Moore in support of the new music they are writing together. After a number of highly energetic and powerful live collaborations including Electric Forest in 2018, Peach Festival, and Resonance Festival in 2021, they decided to jump in the studio and write a song, which turned into Kanika spending two weeks with the band resulting in Moore songs. The tunes conjured up during this session are the basis of the TAUK Moore tour coming to a town near you.

Jim Lauderdale & The Game Changers

At any given time, you’re likely to find Jim Lauderdale making music, whether he’s laying down a new track in the studio or working through a spontaneous melody at his home in Nashville. And if he’s not actively crafting new music, he’s certainly thinking about it. “It’s a constant challenge to try to keep making better and better records, write better and better songs. I still always feel like I’m a developing artist,” he says. This may be a surprising sentiment from a man who’s won two Grammys, released 34 full-length albums, and taken home the Americana Music Association’s coveted Wagonmaster Award.

Dogs in a Pile, an eclectic quintet, has emerged as the heir apparent to the town’s rich musical legacy. Merging funk, jazz, and rock and roll with psychedelia, the quintet presents a completely original vibe built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes eerily reminiscent of the days of yesteryear.

Charlie Waller, a member of the Country Gentlemen, can be credited for the band’s name… Expressing his doubt that this new band could succeed, Waller reportedly asked Duffey, “What are you going to call yourselves, the seldom seen?” The band performed weekly at the Red Fox Inn before getting a residency at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, Virginia. The rest is history.

Holler Choir

Led by the lyrical craftsmanship of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Clint Roberts, the distinctly Appalachian, old-time sound of Asheville’s Holler Choir combines haunting harmonies, stirring string compositions, and heart-wrenching ballads, yet hardly conforms to a stereotypical genre. Call it a confluence of old-time, Americana, and bluegrass, but, by its own exceptional design, the sound and atmosphere of Holler Choir are singular. Robert’s wordcraft and explosive vocal range is met with the dulcet clawhammer banjo plucking of long-time collaborator Helena Rose and the sturdy timekeeping of upright bassist Norbert McGettigan. With a rotating cast of gifted musicians featured on Holler Choir’s recordings and electrifying live performances, it’s no wonder they are the band to watch in 2023.
